The play: To the myth and back was staged in the Center of Modern Art Solvay (16.04.2015)
The play was incorporated into the idea of the project as a source of inspiration for both teachers and students who wanted to take the advantage of this potential creatively, as a motivation for extending knowledge related to symbols of Slavic and Nordic myths, and thus as an opportunity to explore your own identity.
The work on the play contained essential educational elements. It developed team work skills, esthetical sense, stimulated imagination, taught how to interpret myths as well as how to refer the whole symbolism to our own experiences. The main idea of the play was the travel of the main character. This trip allows him to get to know various aspects of life and to become mature gradually. During his travel he has to face different situations, undergoes emotions and dilemmas. While walking, he covers the distance in a literal sense and the voyage inside his own soul in order to learn about his own identity. Motives from Slavic mythology were used in this play, Mythical characters guide the main hero and personify the experience he goes through on the way. The entire staging, amazing costumes, stage movement, music – all these things were developed and performed by students under the supervision of Agnieszka Hliwa who also came up with the idea of the play. The performance made a great impression on the audience and showed everybody’s way in life in an suggestive manner. Norwegian students also performed in this play. They presented dancing pieces which referred to Nordic myths. The music was performed by students from Norway and was a fantastic accompaniment for numerous scenes. There was an exceptional music dialogue between Polish students who played various instruments and sang beautifully, and Norwegian students who made a very original accompaniment. The work on the play proved that school is the teacher of life, and teachers and students take on various roles, acquire valuable knowledge and experience. A large number of invited guests saw the performance – the consul of the Kingdom of Norway Marian Mikołajski, Superintendant of Education for Malopolska Grzegorz Baran, the director of Grant Programs with the Foundation of Educational System Development in Warsaw Katarzyna Aleksandrowicz, both Norwegian and Polish students, the headmaster of the secondary school no. 13 in Kraków, teachers, students as well as parents. |
