The results of the whole enterprise were discussed by referring to the last visit, out of four Polish-Norwegian meetings arranged for the two-year period of the work on the project: School – the teacher of life. Within the meeting:
During workshops for teachers:
The meeting also covered landscape and cultural aspects. Polish teachers visited Kristiansund, they had an opportunity to see Geirangerfjord – one of the most beautiful fiords in Norway , Trolls’ Route and Peer Gynt Gallery in Hallesylt. |
Drama groups for both partner schools continue work on the play: ‘To the myth and back’.The idea of the performance is systematically developed. It will be re-staged ; this time during the meeting in Norway in October 2015. The Norwegian team prepared the performance based on Nordic mythology whereas Polish team worked on two episodes based on Slavic myths – the former is theatrical, and the latter is dancing one. They have a universal character. The first episode exploits the motif of demons, present in Slavic mythology. The demons push people towards crime. The second episode is about the tradition of common singing at the bonfire. Although Outfits and songs from the performance in Kraków are used, new stories are told. Episodes on Slavic motives will be integrated into the performance prepared by the Norwegian team. ( Similarly, it was done during workshops in Kraków when Norwegian episodes were included in the play about Slavic Myths).
Thanks to myths which treat about universal topics, the play becomes comprehensible for everybody regardless of cultural circles. Intercultural dialog has been achieved, which contributes to better getting to know one another and mutual understanding. |

The project: ‘School – the teacher of life’ received the nomination in the competition ‘Edu inspiration 2015’ organized by the Fund of Educational System Development. The competition has been organized under the motto: ‘Good result – constant intervention’ and it aims at selecting the projects financed with FRSE, whose ideas and results are effectively disseminated. Additionally, universal character of these projects will make it possible for them to be explored after their completion in various contexts – both in the area of education and in other domains. The main value of these projects is a permanent character of their results.
A great potential has been noticed in the project: ‘ School – the teacher of life’. |
Between 13 and 18 April 2015 Polish-Norwegian meeting of partner schools in the project; ‘School – the teacher of life’ took place in Kraków. Both teachers and students from the secondary school no. 13 in Kraków as well as Atlanten Videregående Skole w Kristiansund.
The highlight of the meeting was the performance: ‘To the myth and back’ staged in the Center of Modern Art in Solvay (16.04.2015).
The performance was incorporated in the idea of the project as a source of inspiration for both teachers and students who want creatively take advantage of their potential as a motivation for broadening knowledge concerning the symbolism of Nordic and Slavic myths as well as the opportunity for searching for their own identity. The work on the performance included very important educational elements – developed working skills in the team, esthetic sense, and stimulated imagination, taught the interpretation of myths as well as relating the symbolism of myths to participants’ own experience. The performance was a great success. The idea of staging the play, music and students’ acting and musical skills made a great impression on the audience. The performance will be presented again during the meeting in Norway in September 2015. Then, it will be enriched with other episodes concerned with Nordic mythology. Juxtaposing both mythologies - Slavic and Nordic – shows that everybody may find their own story in the symbolism of myths and may find out about the condition of a human being, his or her longings, desires and experiences which are similar in each cultural circle. ‘To the myth and back’ – the title of the performance- is the way ‘there’, which means becoming familiar with literature, art, symbols, identifying with them and finding solutions for our own dilemmas thanks to them. Working on the play proved that school is ‘the teacher of life’, and both teachers and students take on various roles and acquire precious skills and knowledge through drama. A large number of invited guests came to see the play – the consul of the Kingdom of Norway Marian Mikołajski, chief education officer for Malopolska region Grzegorz Baran, the director of grant programs from the Development of education System Fundation in Warsaw Katarzyna Aleksandrowicz, Norwegian teachers and students, headmasters of the secondary school no 13 in Kraków, teachers, students and parents. During the meeting the first stage of the work on the mini-project: ‘We are learning globally – water our common treasure’ (14.04.2015) was summarized. Within common workshops students presented the results of their work, described aims and methods of acting in the mini project. Work results make us aware of the importance of global thinking about problems of the modern world, existing interdependencies as well as how system activities or rather lack of them influence our everyday life. The example of water as an indispensable element of life is meaningful. Norwegian students presented their own film: ‘We are learning globally – water our common treasure’, whereas Polish students showed films: ‘TV water – we are learning globally’, ‘How to save water’ as well as the film about their work on the project, involvement and emotions resulting from the cooperation. We also visited Water Purification Plant Rudawa in the Municipal Water-Sewage Company as well as Central Laboratory. Students became familiar with the technology of making water suitable for drinking as well as methods of controlling quality of drinking water supplied for the residents in Kraków. Due to modern technologies drinking water in Kraków characterizes with a very high quality. The work on the mini project will be continued and eventually summarized during the meeting in Norway in September 2015. Classes monitored by Norwegian teachers were a very important element of the meeting. They were also analyzed during common Polish-Norwegian workshops. (16.04.2015) Norwegian teachers monitored classes conducted by Polish teachers, such as French, German, Maths, Chemistry, Biology, Social Science, education for safety. During the follow-up session guests praised a good pace of the observed classes, clear aims, very good interactions: teacher-student, good planning, methods of motivating students. The role of the teacher and students was discussed. It is essential that students may influence the course of the lesson to a certain degree, they can cooperate with the teacher and with one another. Teachers skillfully guide the course of the class, give it a final shape and achieve main goals. During the follow-up working methods in Poland and Norway were compared. It was noticed that there are a lot of similarities as far as education and discipline maintenance is concerned. Education for Safety rose a lot of interest. It results from the fact that there is no similar subject in a Norwegian school. Safety issues are taught in Norway exclusively within special courses. The exchange of experiences during common workshops was a valuable source of inspiration as well as the opportunity for comparing working methods. In Kraków guests visited Royal Route as well as the Wawel castle, Gallery of Polish Art from the 19th century in the Cloth Hall, Jewish Town Kazimierz and Schindler’s factory. Norwegian teachers also visited National Museum Auschwitz Birkenau. The Monastery of Benedictines’ in Tyniec was also worth seeing. The architecture of the whole place as well as its history made a great impression on everybody. Common trip to Podhale facilitated integration and allowed participants to explore history, art and exceptional atmosphere of the region. |

School is the teacher of lifeSchool as
the teacher of life might be identified with every teacher responsible for the
method of passing knowledge and their work effects. Such a teacher cares for maintaining an adequate level of teaching,
taking students’ needs and changing
conditions into consideration.
The process of teaching draws upon ideas which give it an appropriate shape and direction in a way that allows for achieving intended results – such as wind that brings out qualities of a dandelion by floating gently its seeds and steering it delicately towards a suitable ground. The upper-secondary school no 13 and Atlanten videregående skole work on a common project, which refers to the idea of school as the institution providing conditions for the development of both teachers and students. |
We have already
begun preparations for carrying out
